“Between 2020 and early 2022, we saw a 22% reduction in families with children living in poverty in Newfoundland and Labrador—clear evidence that targeted interventions like the Canada Emergency Response Benefit made a tangible impact.”

Jimmy Pratt Foundation, in partnership with Choices for Youth and the Community Sector Council, is honoured to have contributed to the development of the 2024 Child and Poverty Report Card.

This report is a comprehensive review of the status of child and youth poverty in Newfoundland and Labrador, a reflection on the effectiveness of various poverty reduction initiatives that have been adopted in response, and a highlight of ongoing approaches to combat the poverty crisis in the province.

By considering the findings outlined during the research process, this report offers insight into the impact and reality of child and youth poverty in our province by amplifying the voices of people with lived experience with poverty and advocates who support the movement to end poverty.

Together, we can educate ourselves and others on the realities of child and youth poverty in NL and work towards building a better future for the young people in our communities.
